Family to Family: A Thanksgiving Celebration Rooted in Community

This Saturday, November 22, from 10 am to 1 pm, three powerhouse community partners — All Good Living Foundation (AGLF), The Mission HQ, and Patria Church — are coming together to host the Family to Family Thanksgiving Event, a day built on compassion, dignity, and genuine connection. This isn’t just another holiday gathering; it is a moment when families facing real challenges are welcomed with open arms and treated as honored guests.

The event is open exclusively to families referred by Alameda schools and trusted community partners, ensuring that support reaches those who need it most. From the moment doors opened, the energy was warm and alive — volunteers greeting families, kids bursting with excitement, and the smell of Thanksgiving classics drifting through the space like a hug.

A full Thanksgiving meal will be served with care, giving families a chance to slow down, sit together, and enjoy a moment of peace in the middle of a hectic season. Alongside the meal, family-friendly activities keep the little ones laughing, moving, and fully in holiday mode. It is the kind of wholesome chaos that reminds everyone what community is supposed to feel like.

But the heart of the event doesn’t stop at the meal. Families can leave with a turkey to take home, if they prefer, along with a gift card for each attendee to help ease the financial strain the holidays can bring. These simple but powerful gestures ensured that the celebration continued long after families walked out the door.

Events like Family to Family underscore what happens when schools, nonprofits, faith partners, and neighbors choose to show up for one another. It’s not charity — it’s community in motion. And as families leave with full bags and even fuller hearts, the message was clear: No one gets left behind when we show up together.
